Scotty I own a 2012 Lexus RX 350, with 135,000 miles, the dealership recommends oil changes every 10,000 miles with synthetic oil, I'm considering starting to change the oil every 5,000 miles with synthetic oil, what are your thoughts?

You’re right, 5000 miles is a safe interval.

Out of curiosity, what does your owner’s manual recommend?

10,000

Meh, 5000 is ideal.

If the dealership gives you warranty on the engine, go ahead and change every 10k miles.

Keep your receipts for the oil and filter and note the mileage on the receipt.  5000 miles is ideal.

I would go every 5,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first.  Don’t forget the filter, too.

Keep an eye on your oil every now and then to make sure you are not burning much. Even if you are burning just a little, after 3 or 4k miles, it can ad up. I drive a lot of highway miles and shoot for 7-8k with a good synthetic and filter.
