Lifters adjustment

It is a 66 Ford Mustang 289. I'd like to adjust the lifters. Some tick at idling and grind at high RPM under load. Does anyone have Ford's specs using a feeler gauge?

The carburetor is set fine for the summer but my car keeps stalling at idling until it has warmed up, unless I rev it up with the pedal. Should I turn the choke a little richer?

It has hydraulic lifters, not the solid ones.

I used to own a 1966 Fairlane with 289 V8. The hydraulic lifters don't require adjustment unless valvetrain components have been replaced. From the 1965-1972 Chilton manual I have which covers that car:

V8 Hydraulic Valve Adjustment

All V8 engines with hydraulic lifters valve lifters have non-adjustable valves. ... The only way the valves on these engines can be adjusted is by installing .060 over or undersize pushrods.

NOTE: on all engines with individually mounted rocker arms, if the original factory valve setting has been disturbed by removal of any valve system components it is necessary to to retorque the rocker arms using the procedure outlined in the Ford section under Preliminary Valve Adjustment.
