Lifters ticking

Hi Scotty, I have a 1997 GMC Yukon 5.7 liter engine it has 236000 miles on it. I had the oil changed in it and soon after especially in colder weather on the initial start up in the morning the lifters would tick for less than a minute then stop ticking and every start up after that in the same day they wouldn't tick. Before the oil change they wouldn't tick after starting it up, is that something to be concerned about and what can I do to stop it, what do you think

That's just your engine starting to wear out. You could replace them all, but it will be an expensive endeavor. If you do just the ones that are ticking, you'll be at the same problem again before long. It's not really worth fixing unless you do it right, imo. It'd cost more than the car is worth.

Often that's bad hydraulic lifters have a mechanic check that

Hi Scotty, I have a 1997 GMC Yukon 5.7 liter engine with 236000 miles on it. When I start it up when it's cold there is like a tapping or patting noise, when I step on the throttle it's like it's missing, when it warms up even starting it up while it's warm the noise goes away and the missing goes away. It's got decent acceleration when you do step on it while it's warm there is no noise coming from the engine at all. What do you think it is. Thank you Robert

The way I described the situation in your opinion would it hurt to drive it that way and is there something that I could add to the oil to help it at all. Thank you Robert
