Hey Scotty! So I’ve been searching for a first car and I come across this 1990 Toyota Cressida with around 170k kms for $3,000 Canadian. The seller says; “sat for a long time and needs new valve stem seals, smokes a bit if driven daily, doesn’t if driven daily.” Other than that it has no problems and a bunch of new parts. Is this something to be concerned about, and/or would this be an okay first car? Thanks for taking the time to read this and love your videos!
If it sat for a long time, it may require more new parts: new battery, new tires, new fuel filter. You have to discharge the old gas and fill the tank with new gas. If it smokes, it could mean the engine burns oil a lot, the engine head gasket is blown and coolant leaks into cylinders, could mean other fluid leaks. You probably want to exchange your hard-earned dollars for a car, not for a headache.
No way! Look for something which atleast runs fine & drives normally.
That clunker sounds like it’s ready for the junkyard..
You are taking ng about 32 years old car that sat and have lots of issues. If he even wanted to give you for free, you should not take it.
At the very least, get a compression check to see about the condition of the engine. Then, start finding the other problems.
