What used car can I get with $4000?
I'm a student, I want to buy my very first car.
Sedan
4 doors
Great mpg
Reliable to take me from point A to B and from B to A
Easy to maintain
Currently have no job because I don't have a car.
Willing to repair it by myself if possible.
Hard to find something good at that price in today's market. You might keep an eye out for a cosmetically-distressed Corolla or Civic (hail damage, bad paint, etc.) that is in good mechanical condition.
Well, in this market you can not get much with that money. Consider older Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic. Search this forum for more information.

Try to find one of these -
Honestly, I would look for an early 2000’s Honda or Toyota. Many of them go for cheap in my area and can outlast a lot of new American built cars such as GM’s and Chrysler’s.
If I was to recommend specifics, the seventh generation Honda Civic has a quite reliable engine. The second generation Honda CR-V can be found for pretty cheap as well, it’s more of an SUV but it makes great fuel economy. The Toyota Corolla and Camry are also worth looking into if you can find a good deal.
right now looking into getting a used car may be hard with your budget. Hopefully in the next while used car prices will go down.
Goodluck finding a used vehicle, take care!
