Hey I'm currently looking for a Toyota Avalon. Are there certain years to avoid? If so what problems do they have that I should look out for?
Scotty, I am looking for the last car my wife and I will ever need and I'm guessing it's an Avalon, probably a lease-back. 2019
Like you I'm cheap and can't stand paying 46k for a car. You have convinced me over the past year that Toyota is the company that will not let me down. I have been a Chevy man my whole life but there are so many reasons now to steer clear of greedy guru's in the head office's. Would you say that the Avalon is a car we can depend on? I take care of my cars and I just want to keep it going for as long as I can. My wife is not opposed to the SUV's but still likes the feel and ride of a 4 dr car. Your thoughts? Mike

Can you copy+paste this as another question? This is the comments section of another post, thanks.
Check out the Common Problems with Toyota and Honda models, is it worth buying this model? page linked and give the Used Car Buying Guide a keep. Generally, stick to the later year in the generation as possible and keep in mind some years had oil leak problems, which you can find in that page. Generally 2005-2006 are seen as some of the worst along with 2013-2014...

Toyota Avalon’s in general are very solid, reliable vehicles that have the V6 engine and often overlooked. They are a little more luxurious than the Camry, too, if you care. Some MY2005-2016 had VVT-I oil line that could burst, so if possible avoid those. Long term reliability is unknown with the 8-speed AT which came out for 2019 MY Avalon. If it were me I would look at a previous generation Avalon esp. the final years (2017 and 2018 MY) with the kinks worked out - save some money, too.
