Low mileage 2009 Hyundai Accent. Buy?

I found a listing on kijijiautos for a 2009 Hyundai Accent 2 door hatchback for $2500. It has 95,000 km on it. Guy says it doesn't have any problems with it. My dad used to be a Hyundai mechanic so I was wondering if this would be a good buy for a first car.

Those are crappy little cars that are not designed for long life. At 15 years old and nearly 100K miles it's probably getting near the end. However it's tough to find anything in that price range that's in running condition. If your dad or another mechanic can check it out and give it a clean bill of health maybe you can get a couple of years out of it, especially if your dad can help with repairs. You'd be better off though putting together a bit more money and getting an old Corolla or Civic.

OP's post said 95,000 km, this is not "nearing 100k miles", it's bellow 60k miles.

I didn't catch the foreign units. Still, age takes its toll as well as mileage and they're not very good cars to begin with.

I do not recommend the 3rd generation Hyundai Accent - it's cheap and it's getting old.

With that being said, at just 95k km, it might last a bit more 150k-200k km is how long these usually last.

But being this old, overall how well it will run depends mostly on the condition of the car.

Also "Guy says it doesn't have any problems with it" is often not true, obviously do not take the sellers word for it!

Generally, I'd recommend considering other options in your price range, these older Hyundai Accent's were not great.

Considering your dad was a Hyundai mechanic he can provably provide more detailed insights than I can.

Good luck!
