Lowering SUVs for better gas mileage.

Will you get better gas mileage if you lower an SUV? I'm looking at buying a Honda CRV 2007 to the 2011 models or the 2013 to 2015 Toyota 4Runner.

No.  If your SUV has all the aerodynamics of a cinder block, lowering (or raising) it won't do anything.  You might get better mpg because your wallet is lighter.

Personally I don’t think it is worth the expense to lower. But maybe if you run the math you will have a better idea.

You won't save enough gas for it to really matter. If it's lifted and you're dropping it back to the factory height, you would save gas. Lowering it further may slightly reduce fuel consumption further, but not enough to be worth the cost, a boxy vehicle is still a boxy vehicle. SUVs have bad aerodynamics compared to sedans or station wagons, regardless of the height because of their shape. The standard ride height was set as the happy medium between clearance, aerodynamics, etc. You will save a lot more gas and keep extra cash in your wallet up front if you skip the AWD models and get FWD/ 2WD only. AWD systems use more gas than you will save lowering the vehicle an inch.

If you want a gas sipper, then don't buy an SUV
