Matrix Replacement Options

I need to replace my 2003 manual Matrix after the engine internals broke at almost 239,000 miles and am looking at a couple of options.

Besides another Matrix or Vibe (2003-2008), I am interested in an early model Venza (targeting 2010-2014 model years) with the 4 cylinder engine. I have noticed the fuel economy ratings drop as model years go by with 2010 FWD models having a 21/29 MPG rating and 2013 models rated at 20/26 MPG. I have not found a satisfactory explanation for this.  Was there a physical or software change that caused this difference, did the fuel economy testing change or did it just better reflect reality?

Well and evangelist they went for more horsepower as time went on more horsepower equals worst ass mileage. May I suggest looking at a Toyota Corolla hatchback basically their Toyota matrixes but they didn't want to use the name matrix cuz Toyota keeps screwing up with names bringing them back taking away so they just call it Toyota Corolla hatchback. Originally the Toyota matrix was called the Toyota Corolla matrix
