[Solved] 2004 Pontiac Vibe GT Hard Cold Start

Car has 226000 miles.  Been one of the best cars I have ever owned.  I recently had a fuel injector fail.  I replaced all 4 with Denso OEM Injectors. This fixed the issue. I also have new plugs and coils.  I notice now that when the engine is cold it takes a while to start.  Cranks a while before it starts.  Runs fine and warm starts are ok.  I checked fuel pressure and it's just over 50 psi.   Any ideas?

So I replaced the fuel pump, Strainer, and Fuel Pressure regulator.  Problem fixed.  I guess the fuel pump was getting tired.

@papaz Not a surprise after 21 years. Probably the fuel pressure regulator was the main culprit since in most cars it also keeps static pressure in the fuel rail for faster starts. Thanks for letting us know! (I hope you used OEM parts - cheap aftermarket pieces rarely hold up.)

What is the static pressure in the fuel rail after the engine has been off for a while?

@chucktobias it held about 50 psi status for about 5 min. Should it hold pressure for longer?

You need to look up the specification for your engine. However if there is little or no pressure after a few minutes I'd say the check valve that holds pressure has gone bad.
