Hi Scotty,

Congratulations on the site. I’ve been watching your videos for a little bit and I’ve become a fan. I’ve been a rotary fan for years but growing up and becoming a family man I put them on the side. I have been thinking about getting another one just for weekends (1st or 2nd gen). Any thoughts in general , prices , parts availability?😎😎

Rx-7 parts are hard to find, and they are becoming quite expensive as people seem to treat these as collectors items now.

Thank you for the feedback, I’ve been looking around and talking with people and it’s getting harder and harder to find parts. Also very hard to find stock and decent prices.

Parts are hard to find and expensive, but it's mostly getting someone who knows how to work on a rotary engine that is the big issue.

I wouldn't recommend it.

Trying to find a mechanic that actually knows rotary engines is hard. I used to do a lot of things myself or with friends who were also rotary heads so some things I can still do. Stay safe

Here's an interesting take on the rotary engines that most of the day-to-day systems on the car you'd be dealing with are not particularly unusual. (Internal engine problems are where you'll have the most servicing problems.) However it is still a low-volume specialty vehicle with expensive parts no matter how you look at it.

I don't think Scotty recommends them.  I'm pretty sure he did a video about them or included them in a vid, but it might have been about Rx8s.  That being said, I used to only drive 1st Gen Rx7s.  Never had problems getting parts but it has been about 10 years since I've had one.  Only real issues I had was the clutch master and slave cylinder going out more often than I'd like, carb problems off and on, and strangely enough the rear brake pads falling out.  I've been thinking about getting another 1st gen but the prices for ones in good shape seem to be way up there.

Thank you for the feedback

It’s such a unique car, that I bet it would be hard to find parts and hard to maintain.  Not impossible though.  It may also cost a pretty penny.  But a rotary engine is an amazing piece of machinery!!!  It would be fun to zip around town in one.  If it is just for weekends, and you know what you are doing, why the heck not!

Having had a few myself, I can definitely say they’re great to drive.

Which generations did you have?
