I have a 2009 Chrysler Aspen 5.7 Hemi with 130k miles. Lifter for cylinder 3 is damaged, the bearings in the roller lifter failed. Considering the amount of work required to correct, should I also do a replacement of all components needed to remove the cylinder deactivation from this engine? I'm not interested in increasing performance or worried about the small mileage hit, just getting this SUV back in good running condition.
The hemis are famous for poor quality roller lifters that also destroy your camshaft. I would definitely delete the MDS while I was doing the other work. Now would be the time.
I would get rid of the vehicle but if you intend to keep it then definitely delete the cylinder deactivation hardware. Are you doing the work or is a trusted shop doing it?
