Just for reference this is a video I found on youtube of the exact noise my car is making.

Hi guys, I have an issue with my Toyota Auris 1.4 vvti T2 2007 petrol vehicle.

The car was driving perfectly and then in January I had a service done which included 4 new spark plugs, new air filter and an oil change.

Literally within a few days of this I began to notice a slight metal/raspy noise when accelerating and sometimes accompanied by white smoke out the exhaust. The car would also hesitate to increase in speed and it felt like I was being held back.

At the start this would only happen every few weeks so I left it alone but has got progressively worse now to the point where it happens every day.

It is not there constantly and it comes and goes. For instance when the car first starts up it doesn’t happen and seems to be as the car heats up or if i’ve been driving for 15-20 minutes it gets worse.

Since the service the car has also been losing/burning oil. I cannot see any oil on the road under my car and I have been putting in approximately 5 litres per month (I drive about 35 miles per day). I should add that there is white smoke out the exhaust when I start the car most mornings.

Someone had told me that the noise is possibly preignition or some sort of detonation because of oil in the combustion chamber?

i’d just like to get a second opinion from you guys as the car didn’t cost me a lot and I don’t want to throw money at guessing the problem.
