Hello, I'm from down under (Australia) and i have been trying to find a good scanner that is capable of reading Mitsubishi Pajero's codes from 1996 onwards. Now they have they OBDII ports but they don't adhere to the normal protocols. We are a bit slow down here and i think it was 2007 the we had to comply with full OBDII but prior to that some 2000+ cars could read some codes but it is a hit and miss and from 1996 it is virtually a full on Mitsubishi Mutt scanner which you have this crazy scanner unit and a memory card and hook up to a laptop that runs Windows XP. For us home mechanics at the moment from 1996 to 2000 we have to go to the OBDII port short out pins 1 and 4 and count how many CEL flashes to get error codes. So none of this driving and getting a live readout or anything like that. Cheers Garry
Yeah I realized that OBD2 is not international standard different countries of different rules. I seen that when people bring me car some other countries in my scanners don't interface with them. And sometimes early models like that don't interface at all and require a special computer for example here in the states I often see 96 Buicks that won't interface with an OBD2 it has to be done with a special dealer scanner for that year only
hello Scotty if this is you, but yes that is exactly what has happened down here, i think/thought over there in the states it was compulsory for any car 1996->. if i want my unit checked i have would have to take it to the dealer. But i am a retired mech/truck driver and have not had to do that up to this point in life, i will just get on the net sort out fact from fiction and have a go. I do have a range of tools & equipment from my early days in the business but when i got into trucking got rid of a lot and like you i just help a lot of people out for basically nothing, i am on the pension now so i help look after us old timers and people that are struggling, just charge them parts and do the labour for free if its not a massive job like complete engine/g/box rebuilds. Anyway have a good day/night its midnight Thursday here
