My 2007 Hyundai Accent GS is an automatic with 199,784 miles on it. We bought it used and it's the last car our mother ever rode in and she thought it was just so cute so we've been trying to keep it running for as long as we can.

It died so quietly while driving I didn't even notice it died until I realized I was losing speed. No noise or shudder or anything. Just a slow decrease in speed and I looked down and saw the battery, oil, and engine light on.

I haven't been able to get a code reader to it but I do know the battery or alternator aren't likely the problem since the battery is still good and nothing like the headlights has started to dim yet. The fuel pump still comes on when we turn the key and the engine does actually try to turn over. And I think (emphasis on the think part) I am actually looking at the timing belt on the left side of the engine. It looks to be in good condition and none of the teeth look broken or dry rotted. It even runs like it should when you try and crank the engine.

We've recently replaced the valve gasket and valve cover from where it cracked and was losing oil everywhere. We also replaced the solenoid valve and the camshaft position sensor as well as the spark plugs and coil packs because of the nasty oil leak fouling out the spark plugs. All of this work was done in the last 2 months maxiumum.

We replaced the water pump and all the belts near it (the pump took them all out when it failed) in 2022.

What else could it be?

Well there's lots of reasons. Cars can die prey that it's a bad alternator that just ran out of electricity in which case it would jump start. If not that it can be anything from the engine breaking down internally to the fuel pump. Try my video    fixing an engine that cranks over but doesn't start.
