Hello everyone, I have a Renault Laguna 1.9 dCi turbodiesel with 300 600 km which burns a worrisome amount of oil after being taken on short trips (ate half a tank of oil for 3 weeks of driving to school and back). I have no Idea what could be wrong with it. Please help
It's a French car that's what's wrong with it they burn that kind of oily engine just worn out. Do we have a compression test on you can see how worn the engine is but it would need rebuilding anyway you look at it burning that much oil
Sounds like maybe a busted ring? Somewhat unrelated, we used to (not so jokingly) tell owners of their Alfas that they needed to fill the oil and check the gas.
I would say swap the pcv to hopefully cut down a bit but who knows if that will even help, those are doomed by design.
Before it goes kaput you may want to save up for something made outside of Europe.
Black smoke is running rich. Like @russelljkelly81 said, replace the PCV valve to see if it helps. It is probably the least expensive and most overlooked replacement part in the car. I change mine out with every oil/filter change.
It was very reliable til now, and its been in our ownership for 10 years. I did play around with it like, rev it high to 3500 rpm and play on the downhill twisties, and it was only recently that it started doing that. Plus, it is making quite the black smoke when I press the gas to accelerate.
Car is 21 years old
