I thought about this one today and it may be a somewhat silly question. Are All-Terrain tires better at repelling nails and other junk in the road that can puncture your tires vs all-season highway tires? I put All-Terrain tires on my '99 Ranger Off-Road, mainly because I like the look, and I figured they'll hold up better on the pothole riddled roads of the Midwest. The Ranger has never picked up a screw or nail with the All-Terrains, and it gets driven on the same roads way more often than the Mustang does. My 2017 Mustang has all-season tires and has gone through 2 tires and a patch from screws and nails getting into them. I work in an industrial area where scrappers love to dig metal out of dumpsters, and they often lose nails and other sharp stuff.
yes all terrain tires are stronger with more plies, more tread etc.
But if you hit it right, nail and screw will still puncture it. Especially the sidewall.
