My 2000 Chevolet Caviler died, they want $2000 to fix it. I need a used car as soon as possible. I have $3000,to $40000 dollars to spend. There is a 2009 Huyndai with 59000 miles, one owner selling, car has not be driven much, in good shape, They want $3,500. The Huyndia is not your best car you said because it is NorthKorean made. Should I purchase it? Please advise what good used cars with high millage should I look for that are $3000 to $4000. Thank you for your reply, I need a car as soon as possible.
Sincerely,Theresa
I agree, based on my own experience. Toyota (probably Corolla) and Honda (probably Civic) unless you need more interior space. I sold my Civic with 180,000 miles on it to my mechanic for $ 1,500. And it felt like a good deal to both of us. Of course he knew the car and had worked on it for years.
And I also agree about getting a good mechanic to check the car out. codes reveal problems that don't necessarily show. And some are inexpensive to fix and some are not. But only a mechanic will know which are which.
2003-2008 Toyota Corolla automatic would be a top choice.
On the Hyundai, my family also has an 09 Korean made one with no problems just realize they are a bit cheaper cars the best Hyundai you can get is the 2007-2009 Elantra those can last a good 200k miles or so I still recommend the Corolla first choice though, they cost around $3500-5000.
If you can find one a 2009-2011 Honda Civic, or 2009-2013 Honda Fit, is also a good choice.
Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Honda Accord, Hyundai Elantra.
Always have a mechanic inspect the car, scan for codes and all modules, inspect for
fluid leaks, and inspect underneath the car. Good luck.....
That '09 Hyundai was made in the company's "sweet spot" where quality had improved to the point where they were decent and they had not yet started having problems with self-destructing engines and cars spontaneously bursting into flames. I know quite a few people who own Hyundais from that time period and they've been all right. While not in the same class as Toyota or Honda if it really only has 59K miles on it and has been well-maintained it should have a lot of life left in it. If taken care of it will probably make it to 150K or so without serious problems. If you go that route I'd try to get it cheaper - $2500 sounds more like it.
