Greetings from Pensacola, FL.
My brother just totalled his Ford Expedition when he got hit by a military guy that ran a red light. He's thinking about getting a newerish (no more than 5 years old) model of the GMC Yukon Denali or Suburan. I told him that he would be making a HUGE mistake considering all of the issues they've been having. His main concern is that it's probably the only company still making naturally aspirated V8's. What can I say to him to keep him from making the mistake of buying a GM product???
What can I say
You said you told him about the issues, but he still wants it. So, nothing I guess.
In the end, it's his money. Let him buy what he wants.
I have lot of friends with the Yukon and Tahoes since I live in Kuwait. Honestly, those with the 2008-2011 are the happiest since until date they haven't had any issues except replacement of normal consmables. Beyond that , I know some of my friends who have had transmission issues within 2000 km of buying a new Yukon and had it returned to the dealer. They made it so bad that even the wind noise in a cheaper car is much less than a yukon these days.
Those who have made the mistake of buying one of those models will either have 2 reactions
1 - Return the vehicle/ sell it.
2 - Keep repairing the vehicle and act like they have the best car in the world.
If you have an option for a Sequoia like FJCruiser2014 had acvised or a used LC, go for that. IT can run forever. There are people here in Kuwait with 5,00,000 kms or so with those and still running like a horse.!
Have him talk to some honest mechanics that work on these cars.
Tell your brother to lease it to see what problems he witnesses before paying a lot of money in the repair shop.
"A fool and his money are soon parted."
Why not just pick one and have a mechanic check it out?
If he wants V8 then a Toyota Sequoia; even the 2022 has the V8 and it's a much better vehicle.
What year is the Sequoia switching to the turbocharged v6?
2023
Another good V8 option is the Land Cruiser if you can find someone willing to sell. Those who have one know what they have so either won't sell or ask a high price.
I can imagine. Thanks for the heads up!
