Mechanic shop put wrong engine oil in my 5.7 Ram 1500 Truck. In about two weeks Engine light came on and my truck smelled like it was burning rubber or tar. Shop put 5w 30 sae and my truck takes 5w 20 full synthetic. When accelerating it felt like it was losing the power? What should I do next? Because I don’t know if there is damage or not to my engine
Go to an Autozone or similar large auto parts store and find out what the code is that turned on your check engine light on. Post it here, or go to https://repairpal.com/obd-II-code-chart
I would bet that the source of your light, smell and bad acceleration isn't the oil. Perhaps the mechanic who didn't put the right oil in made another mistake. Is the il level good? Any leaks on the ground or onto hot exhaust manifold/pipes?
Thanks the code was P1524 and P1521 something about Oil pressure out of range- Camshaft advance. Then a error oil velocity . Also a misfire in cyl 3
There's very little difference between 5W-20 and 5W-30. You would have to go tens of thousands of miles before you start noticing things are amiss. 5W means winter rating, and they're both 5. Once the engine is at operating temperature, it is 30 weight oil, it's supposed to be 20 weight.
