Hello,

I am looking to buy a Plymouth Voyager that has 1 owner and 87K original miles from a private owner. They have it listed for $3800 and I was wondering if it's worth it. I was looking to buy it for road trips. It doesn't have any check engine lights and the previous owner became ill so they couldn't drive it the past 3 years.

Sounds like too much money for a 25-year-old Voyager. Even if the suspiciously low mileage is true the vehicle will be experiencing deterioration due to age, as well as problems due to sitting for years. That thing has really exceeded its expected useful lifespan. They are known for weak transmissions and other reliability problems.

An observation that there is no check engine light is not sufficient to determine that the vehicle is in good condition. You would need to have it given a thorough examination by a good mechanic before considering purchase. If you were to use that thing for road trips you'd better be subscribed to a good towing service.

One of my old coworkers drove a Voyager back and forth to work, he kept is '86 Monte Carlo in the garage on carpet, and he also drove an Excursion. He referred to the Voyager as a "bucket car." He worked at a sports bar at the time. I wouldn't really trust it to make long trips on the highway. Anything but back and forth to work is probably a no-go. $3800 is also probably too much for a 25-year-old minivan that's not made anymore, nor is Plymouth itself around anymore -it hasn't been around for 24 years or so.
