Hey Scotty,
Ive recently heard of Comma Ai, an aftermarket self driving plug in hardware. My coworker who has it said it works very good especially on freeways. What I'm worried about is it has to be plugged in the OBD port, and from what I've known, nothing should be plugged in the OBD port except Scotty's scanner 🤣.
The hardware itself only costs $1500 instead of a $55,000 Tesla and $20,000 upgrade lol.
What do you think of Comma Ai?
Companies pouring millions of dollars into self-driving cars have not been able to get it right. Would you really want to trust your life and the lives of people around you to some sketchy gadget that plugs into a port meant for diagnostic use only?
Pass on it. Â Cars are meant to be driven by humans, period.
.
Also, you get what you pay for.  I don’t trust any of these aftermarket “assisted driving” gizmos.
I can’t comment on comma ai specifically.Â
But I can comment on self driving freeway, ie lane assist and adaptive cruise control.Â
It’s okay. It’s not as good as a human. (Well it may be better than some humans hahahaha).  But you still need to pay attention to the road.Â
I do like the adaptive cruise control. Especially in LA traffic. It makes freeway traffic tolerable. That seems to work decently. I’m not too fond of the lane departure assist. I feel like it turns or reacts too late for my preferences.Â
My biggest problem with adaptive cruise control isn’t the tech itself. It is other drivers on the road. Adaptive cruise control gives a safe distance between you and the car in front of it. But often times, I end up getting cut off because LA drivers are crazy, and cram into any nook and cranny there is.Â
So the tech is one thing, and how you use the tech is another. But also how crazy drivers react to the styl of driving the tech does needs to be taken account.Â
