Looking for advice about my 20ss Corolla S with 125k miles. The care runs! I have done clock spring and starter but am currently debating buying the new 2022 Corolla out of fear of breakdown and that this is the last year to get the Corolla sedan with a manual transmission. Do I run this 2011 into the ground or get the 2022 with manual transmission? Ideally I would wait another year but 2022 is the last year I can get this manual sedan. I appreciate any advice.
(2011) Corolla S with 125k miles
One of the best Toyota products ever made.
Assuming that it's the automatic - it's one of the last years of the reliable automatic transmissions.
I have the worst configuration of that generation of Corolla, and yet it is still so much better than most of their modern cars, no ValveMatic, CVTs, or complex electronics to worry about!

If you're fine with manuals than that's a great car - especially if you can find one with the 1.8, and not the 2.0 DynamicForce.
If you're fine with a manual, then this is also a great choice.
If you can easily afford the upgrade, then why not - both cars are great, just make sure you're getting a big sum for your old Corolla (or even better, if you can, it's not a bad idea to just keep it).
If you are buying out of fear of a breakdown, there really isn’t much to fear. The Corolla is as reliable as it can get for the most part. It makes more sense to keep it running.
If you are buying because you want a manual transmission, go for it. They aren’t making as many manuals in the future, and if they do, they are usually the higher more expensive trim.
Thanks for the input on this issue. My issue is the fear of breakdown and dumping money into the car. I am certain I can get a year out of it without breakdown (and more) which would be ideal but then I get stuck with the CVT. Not sure I trust that CVT and I kind of like zipping around with the manual. Since there are not many manual cars I kind of feel pressured to buy now. And the manual I found is in another state. Just none in NJ and dealers here have a 3K mark up for something that is not the right color or missing a roof. No way I would get the Corolla GR8 with manual. Thanks again for such information.

As for CVT while it most likely wouldn't last like a manual but still Toyota or Honda CVT is good and reliable. If you take care of it with the regular maintenance it'll last you.

Does it have to be Corolla manual? Honda is still making manual Civic. While most Honda Civic's with manual transmission have the turbocharged engine (which Honda is always my top choice when it comes to turbocharged), but the 2023 Civic Hatchback Sport trim comes with manual option and the 2.0L naturally aspired engine.
