For years I've been lecturing people on why they shouldn't buy a brand new, off the showroom floor car. Recently I've been thinking about upgrading a 2016 Ford escape that I inherited. I've always had my heart set on a Subaru outback and the wilderness is really the one I would like to have. However, with the prices of used cars these days being outrageously high it might be better to just bite the bullet and buy a new car. All Subarus have CVT transmissions and Scotty's videos regarding CVT transmissions and the negativity surrounding them has made me hesitant. It seems that there are only two smaller SUVs on the market that do not have CVT transmissions. The Mazda CX-5 and the Kia Sportage. Of those two which would you recommend? Also, if I couldn't get the kind of deal I'm looking for with one of those two choices and had to buy a vehicle with a CVT transmission which of the following would you recommend.
Subaru outback wilderness Toyota RAV4. Honda Cr-V
Thanks.
You want the Subaru. Get the Subaru. Subaru CVT is decent. It’s still a CVT, but probably one of the better CVT.
Just be extra diligent with the transmission oil changes. Do it more frequently than called for in the manual.
Buying new seems to make more sense these days. Used cars are going for more than new cars in many cases. It’s crazy out there.
I had a friend buy a RAV4 a little over MSRP 2 years ago, and the dealer wants to buy it back at MSRP. This pricing is wild.
Personally speaking, I don't like CVT transmissions for any reason.
I don't like the technology and no matter how well built the newer versions claim to be, they are still weak transmissions.
I would choose the CX-5.
The RAV4 and Cr-V are probably about equal in CVT quality and would last longer than the Subaru in the long run.
Thank you.
What about a nice/used Harley-Davidson to combat your midlife-crise? 😀
What makes you think I'm having a midlife crisis?
