Hey Scotty!

My wife and I are considering getting a new car, it'll be our first new car as a married couple. Here are our considerations:

1. 2020 Honda Civic LX CVT

2. 2020 Hyundai Elantra

3. 2020 Volkswagen Jetta

4. 2020 Mazda Mazda3

I was wondering what your thoughts are on these cars based on your experience as a mechanic. We're going to be keeping this car for a long time, so maintenance and repairs down the road are things that we're considering greatly in this purchase.

Thanks!

Go for the 2020 Honda Civic LX CVT.

Just make sure it does not have the earthdream engine.

@yaser

Excuse my ignorance. What about the Earth Dreams engine that makes it undesirable?

Oil dilution.

Honda cost of ownership is gonna be less... caveat here is the CVT.  Honda may have significantly improved their CVT...let's hope so considering how many they are putting in their cars today.

Mazda3 has a new body style and interior are the latest, but the good news is that its innards are carried over from the old model, i.e. they are tried and tested. Consumer Reports rated Mazda #1 in terms of reliability, so I would definitely test drive them too. Mazda interiors are a notch above the rest, and to me worth the 5% price premium.
