Scotty, my sister needs a new car. I'm worried she'll keep the maitenance to a minimal and possibly get into an accident. My mother is also insisting we get new car, not used. I can't convince here otherwise
How would your rank these new cars, in order, from least realiable to most reliable and why?:
- 2022 Toyota Corolla
- 2021 Honda Civic
- 2022 Toyota Camry
- 2021 Honda Accord
- 2021 Toyota RAV4
- 2022 Honda CR-V
If a reliablility is the only factor considered, which one would you personally choose based on your extensive experience fixing these cars over the years?
It’s hard to go only by reliability, for brand new vehicles. Their long term reliability is unknown. All you’re going by is the manufacturer’s track record of reliability, for any brand new vehicle.
Has she already test driven them all?
She drove a 2021 Corolla and a 2020 Civic. Seems to like the interior and infotainment of the corolla more. She also tried a 2017 camry. She like it more than the civic or the corolla because of the ride quality.
Generally speaking, those are probably the most reliable cars per reputation. Hard to tell actual since they are so new.
When it comes down to it, do you want a compact car, midsize car, or compact SUV?
For compact car, I’d go 2022 Civic before the 2021. I just like the interior so much better with that said the 2021 is probably the more projected reliability than 2022 because it is deep into that generations cycle. While I admire the Corolla, I’m not much into Corolla’s.
For midsized, I can go either way. I roll in a 1999 Accord, so a slight edge goes to Accord for me. But I’ve driven a Camry regularly in the family, and it was a nice ride too. Looks wise, I prefer the Accord and Camry of 2 generation ago. I’m not to keen on either current Gen.
For compact SUV, I am impressed with the RAV4 handling and drivability. And I like how they made it look more like an SUV than a crossover. CRV doesn’t seem as responsive. The difference is slight.
They all should have solid reliability. Pick whichever she likes best.
