[Solved] New Honda Accord or new Toyota Avalon

Hi Scotty, I am saving up for the next car. I like larger sedans with six cylinder engines. I keep my cars for 15 years minimum. Styling notes aside, from an engine, transmission and major system components stand point, would I be better off getting a Honda Accord or Toyota Avalon? I live in an area with both dealerships/service centers, so no issues with getting service. I don't need the high end models of either. Just the basic V6 models.

Appreciate any thoughts and pro's/con's of each to consider. Thanks.

Get the Avalon.

Avalons are excellent luxury cars that outlast Accords by far.

Using online and other resources, get objective reviews and information for each vehicle. Record important characteristics for each, and above all, be honest and objective with yourself.

Then try the following approach. First rent each one for a few days, get real-world driving experience in each, find out the good stuff, find out the so-so- and the bad ? It's well worth the rental costs to gain such first-hand knowledge.

Or, try this: Do a good test drive of the Honda, then do a good test drive of the Avalon, then go back to the Honda and drive it again. My guess is that you'll park the Honda and walk, if not run, back to the Avalon.

Or actually, you could do both ?

In either manner, you get first hand personal experience, not simply comments from biased strangers in a forum. Good luck ..

I would recommend the Avalon. The new Accord isn't even offered with a V6. You can get it with the 2.0 T 4-cyl which pumps out similar power to a V6, but it's turbocharged and you risk having more issues than a naturally aspirated engine. In my opinion, Toyota is slightly superior than Honda. Sure, they're both reliable brands. But I feel Toyota is more consistent with their quality.
