Why are members of Parliament deciding this without the people in mind?

That's what you get for joining the EU. One governing body for an entire continent is an idiotic , utopic idea that never worked and never will. Humans weren't built that way.

Posted by: @dianacarbuff5

do you think this law will be annulled later?

No. Restrictions will only get tighter. You handed over too much power to a central authority. People didn't learn from the previous times.

Posted by: @dianacarbuff5

What is going on?

The bureaucrats are consolidating power. That should sound very familiar to you.

This ICE ban is just another tentacle of corruption. The powers that be are shifting the flows of economy into their hands, and the behaviours of the proletariat. Same old story.

A few days ago the European Parliament approved the ban of ICE in Europe (2035). This law concerns the sales of new ICE cars and vans. Electric vehicles only will be allowed to register.

How is this even possible when everybody I know is against this? Here in Czechia the parliament openly disagrees with such measures to be enacted.

Why are members of Parliament deciding this without the people in mind? What will people drive? How can they ban ICEs when we don´t have an alternative yet? What is going on?

European viewers of Scotty Kilmer, if you are here, tell me, do you think this law will be annulled later? Anyone can reply, of course.

It just surprises me a lot that every European country is voting in favour for this law to be passed. Do you all have the money to purchase electric cars? Do your relatives?

Diana

P.S. Where is the electricity going to come from? How about people living in high-rise buildings?

>"How is this even possible when everybody I know is against this?"
Because they have not asked anyone you know.
>"Why are members of Parliament deciding this without the people in mind?"
Because they're sure that no matter what they do, they won't get held responsible electorally.
I couldn't even find what member/party voted what way on this bill/package.
So why would they care?
-
> "European viewers"
Well I'm not, but I live pretty close to Europe.
-
>"Do you all have the money to purchase electric cars? Do your relatives?"
Personally I have considered an Citroen E-C4, MG ZS EV, or ORA Funky Cat- but went with an ICE instead, these EVs are pricy but not too expensive, they're all about $30k-$40k (pre-tax, about as much as a nice SUV) but the highway range with A/C is not satisfactory.

I ended up going with a cheap and simple ICE without complex emissions and with a good old conventional auto (which is becoming rare nowadays) - I think the best possible course of action is buying an efficient car that could last 10+ years and waiting for all of this insanity to pass…
-
Also, in 2036 or 2037 expect them to pass a law that will tax your EV based of millage!
(If they aren't getting taxes from petrol, they will just take that money from you directly - where I live I saw a proposal for a $0.03 tax per each KM of driving in an EV)
-
> "How about people living in high-rise buildings?"
Where I live, in my city there are parkings on the street and near shopping centers that are only for charging EVs.
You use an app that shows what charging stations are not occupied, if they're not you can reserve that station on the app, come, plug it in, and after your car stops charging, you must pick it up in 30 minutes or they may charge a fine.
It's actually quite efficient, people charge their EVs and go - but it does require your municipality to be reasonably competent and enforce that no ICEs take up EV charging stations and that EV owners do not leave their cars there after they're done charging.
-
>"What is going on?"
I believe their plan is to phase out all cars, to make you use public transport, instead of having the "luxury" of freedom of movement (Since in Europe, freedom of movement, is not a human right, also neither is "Right of owning property" so they can simple force you to get rid of your ICE car when ever you want)
-
>"Where is the electricity going to come from?"
The only way is nuclear, but I really don't think they're planing on many people owning EVs...

This kind of thing has been discussed to death by Scotty in his videos and here as well which you will find if you do a search.

This isn't the place to get into politics, but moving forward this kind of thing does obviously affect our cars. Briefly as far as how they can do it when so many are against it, the fight against ManBearPig is a religious fatwa and the purveyors of it really don't care what the facts are or what the smallfolk think or want.

They will not let mere details such as where the electricity is going to come from or how the grid will handle it stand in their way, nor will they listen to evidence that electric cars have little or no environmental benefit overall. They certainly have no concern about whether you or I can afford an electric car or whether we even have a place to charge it - in that case you just take the electric bus.

Some say there is a more sinister agenda behind all this but once again this forum is not the place to delve into that. See the plans for "sustainability" put forth by the U.N. and Klaus Schwab of the World Economic Forum, and look up the "longtermism" movement - decide for yourself. (It's hard to call something a "conspiracy theory" when it's all out in the open.)

Y'all heard of the Toyota son of co-founder passed away yesterday 😢. I wonder what Scotty thinks of how Toyota will evolve after that?

If this is real, and it actually airs, what do you think will happen?

Looks like a hit piece. Nothing will happen. Idiots will keep buying them.

Beats me. I'm not sure what's so "super" about this so-called "bowl" or what all the hoopla is about, and I don't pay any attention to ads in general anyway. However anyone who's been paying attention knows that Tesla's automated driving system isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Just about anything having to do with Tesla is more like the mother of all scams more than anything else.

STELLANTIS began it's plan to stop production of all "Chrysler", "Dodge" and "Fiat" platforms,

(and move to PSA, Italian and RAM platforms)

The first new Jeep under STELLANTIS, the Jeep Avenger, is out on sale on euro markets - and it carries out this philosophy.

The notable thing about it is that this JEEP uses PSA technology, PSA powertrain and a PSA platform.

Spoiler

Small-Medium cars will be based on STELA SMALL (A development of PSA's CMP),

Medium-Large cars will be based on STELA MEDIUM (A development of PSA's EMP2),

while luxury offerings will be based on STELA LARGE (A development of Maserati/Alpha Romeo Giorgio)

And trucks are to be based on STELA FRAME (A development of RAM DT platform)

The basis for small-medium STELLANTIS cars:

The basis for medium-large STELLANTIS cars:

The basis for large-luxury STELLANTIS cars:

Trucks will still be based on the latest generation RAM.

This bill is hilarious. It’s a response to the (dumb) 2035 ICE ban. Which shows how ridiculous the ICE van is and how ridiculous the EV WY ban would be.

I’m not against ICE. I’m not against EV. Just let the market figure it all out, instead of legislation.

1

I was hoping someone would do this.  Not that I have anything personal against EV's (well I kinda do, considering that the EV industry is made entirely of equal parts vaporware and political donations).  But the undeniable fact is that EV's work for wealthy people on the coasts but absolutely do not work for low- and middle-income people and people who live anywhere else.  Nothing in the foreseeable future is going to change that.

I don't want to rehash all the EV debate (we've had a lot of that in the last month or 2), but I believe people should be able to drive whatever car works best for them.  If we don't want California to make all the de facto laws for everyone else, there has to be push back.  WY is a good start, but not enough to beat CA.  But maybe if ID and MT and ND and SD and especially TX mandate some sales of ICE cars (doesn't have to be all), then in the end we can get a compromise where the people - not the politicians - get to decide what cars they want to drive.

Scotty,

Hi Scotty.

People in UK trying to complete their Christmas journeys. The infrastructure is just not ready.

Queues stretching for hours show what it's really like owning a Tesla at Christmas (msn.com)

someone needs to put those photos on a billboard above the Tesla dealerships

Switzerland plans to BAN electric cars from the roads (...) in a bid to reduce energy consumption

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11494991/Switzerland-BAN-electric-cars-roads-power-shortages.html

I wish EU would do the same and possibly postpone the ban of ICE vehicles in 2030.

Hippie dreams, such as getting rid of fossil fuels in favor of electrification, never survive meeting up against the real world.

It’s absurd!
Stripping away their citizens freedom of movement in the name of climate theory… But at least it’s fun to see it already begin to backfire.

incorrect analysis based on old information from August, presented as "groundbreaking news"

In simple terms: Toyota didn't loose any money, as a matter of fact frofit margins grew.

Toyota was not able to make as much cars as expected, due to supply chain issues.

And what he misses out on is that EV sales aren't a priority, small volumes, high costs, low profit margins

(Just the same way you don't see many companies rushing to sell $13k sedans, not enough money to be made)

BUT if you look at HEVs, 1/4 Toyotas sold are hybrids (compliant with future regulation) and profit margins are great.

As no one can really rival Toyota hybrid's warranty and reliability from a design standpoint.

I think a bright future awaits Toyota,

Car companies like PSA and VW are planing on going EV, so their only products will be expensive and have questionable longevity.

And Toyota is going hybrid, so they'll be a much more rational choice for most consumers.

Toyota will be fine. They are global company. EV's are just a temporary fad in N.America

Thanks for sharing. And of course, yeah hybrid cars could have the same problem. They have a large battery pack and electricity and salt water do not mix

What happened in FL confirmed your statement, we are not ready for the EV cars yet. Thank you sir!

HEY Scotty,

The government of FL issued a warning that EV cars getting on fire after Ian hurricane. See this link:

https://youtu.be/X5NiWJcyrwI

The government of FL. The problems started to appear after many days from hurricane and no one know about the reason yet. They believe the Sault causing a chemical reaction with the EV and it will take up to weeks until fire come without a warning. What you think about this? And do you think this also can be the same issue for hybrid cars?

@mmj I have a question for you. I have noticed that posts such as this which are informative and interesting are grouped under the “News” heading. I understand that it is not a question and therefore relegated to the News, but when this occurs, the post becomes buried among all News items (now numbering 169) and doubtful that many people will ever see.
I thought this post about flood damaged EV’s from hurricane Ian suddenly igniting was especially interesting in light of the current discussion regarding EV’s pros and cons. Even Scotty commented sharing his appreciation for the video being shared.
So I was respectfully wondering if it was possible for you as the administrator to send News post to the New grouping to be archived, yet still keeping it as a separate post for others to more easily view and make comments. ? I was able to find it again because I had commented on it and was able to look it up under my activity.
Thank you.

@avalon04
News discussion is not the primary mission of this site, so it will always take a back seat. This was the best solution we came up with, which works within the rigid framework that is this forum software.
When something new is posted to the 'News' topic, it will show up in the "Recent Posts" list at the bottom right of the page so you can see it there. In addition to that, the entire 'News' topic is bumped up to the top of the topic list, indicating that there is a new addition to it. Once you have the News topic open, you can click the "Last Post" link (in the red bar) to jump directly to the last posted item. The title will be shown in bold text, indicating that you have not read it. Therefore, there should be no way that you don't find it.
But I'm always open to suggestions, and I'll do what I can to make things better (within my capabilities).

If you are really interested in this topic, I can also suggest that you bookmark it in your browser. Then use the sorting drop-down menu near the top, and sort replies by "newest".

@mmj Thank you for your response.

@mmj And thanks also for all that you and the moderators here do behind the scenes to keep this the quality forum that it is.

Self driving cars still have a looooooong ways to go:

The first car woke Jennifer King at 2 a.m. with a loud, high‑pitched hum. “It sounded like a hovercraft,” she says, and that wasn’t the weird part. King lives on a dead-end street at the edge of the Presidio, a 1,500-acre park in San Francisco where through traffic isn’t a thing. Outside she saw a white Jaguar SUV backing out of her driveway. It had what looked like a giant fan on its roof — a laser sensor — and bore the logo of Google’s driverless car division, Waymo.

She was observing what looked like a glitch in the self-driving software: The car seemed to be using her property to execute a three-point turn. This would’ve been no biggie, she says, if it had happened once. But dozens of Google cars began doing the exact thing, many times, every single day.

King complained to Google that the cars were driving her nuts, but the K-turns kept coming. Sometimes a few of the SUVs would show up at the same time and form a little line, like an army of zombie driver’s-ed students. The whole thing went on for weeks until last October, when King called the local CBS affiliate and a news crew broadcast the scene. “It is kind of funny when you watch it,” the report began. “And the neighbors are certainly noticing.” Soon after, King’s driveway was hers again.

Time to lay down some sharp objects in the driveway 😆

Chinese cars ace EuroNCAP safety tests as European manufacturers are falling behind.

Both the "ORA Funky Cat" and the "WEY Coffee 01" scored 5 star ratings,

While the BMW i4 and Opel Astra both scored only 4 safety starts.

Also interestingly, no GM/Ford products attempted to pass the updated safety test.

Both the "Good Cat" / "Funky Cat" and the "WEY Mocha" / "WEY Coffee 01" are built by GWM (Great Wall Motors).

On their earlier cars like the Great Wall C10, the only thing that didn't fall apart was the Mitsubishi powertrain... 😆

So it is going to be really interesting to see how these hold up -

If I had to guess, I'd say that they probably won't.

Here we go again:

“Japanese automakers Toyota, Honda and Nissan ranked at the bottom of a new Greenpeace study on 10 automakers' decarbonisation efforts, the environmental group said on Thursday.

Greenpeace ranked Toyota last out of the top 10 automakers in sales volume — the same as last year — and pointed out that zero-emission vehicles made up less than 1% of the company's sales and noted slow progress in supply chain decarbonisation.

It is a remarkable change of fortune for the world's largest carmaker by sales, considering its Prius hybrid, released almost a quarter century ago and a darling for environmentalists.

The Japanese automaker is now a frequent target of criticism from activists and green investors, who slam it for not embracing battery electric vehicles (BEVs) fast enough.”

As per usual, the greens are insane.
I just can’t help but notice how
Toyota is pretty much the only company that offers genuinely good hybrids worthy of considering over conventional vehicles. They’re literally the greenest company out there.

-

Even on non hybrids, Toyotas are incredibly fuel efficient and have the cleanest exhausts with the lowest concentration of particles and harmful elements…

How do they even compare it to companies like Ford…

-
But I guess that unless they’ll constantly advertise how “eco” they’re are in ridiculous TV ads the greens won’t be happy.
https://youtu.be/KeVHmLY7YZc

My opinion of Greenpeace and the rest of the "greens" cannot be posted in a family-friendly forum.

they've been trespassing and knocking at my door begging for money this week. I threw them out.

Chevrolet Volt needs $30,000 battery replacement after 70,000 miles

First, there is a Chevy Volt Facebook group that gives excellent advice, so search this out. Also, I owned a 2018 with 58,000 miles until someone rearended me last month and totaled it. I'd contact a GM dealer, especially if you bought it at a dealership, and have them see if GM covers it. Because this makes no sense to me.
