I was gifted a used 2014 Nissan Altima 3.5 SL automatic with 168k (mostly highway) miles and Im trying to decide wether or not to change the transmission fluid as I believe it’s never been changed. It will sometimes stutter or slip when turning and accelerating. Will it do more harm than good to change the fluid?

If it is no too bad, live with it, If you can't, just drain the fluid and add the same amount. DO NOT FLUSH.

@yaser
as mentioned and explained by Scotty in a video(s) and according to common mechanic's wisdom, DO NOT change transmission fluid that has not been changed for many miles. The trans may be counting on the friction of the old fluid to work. I believe Scotty suggested that you might be able to use it around town, but not on the highway and has had customers who have made it a few years using it like that after it started showing signs of slipping.

I wouldn't recommend selling it to someone else unless they understand the implications. If getting stuck somewhere isn't dangerous where you live (out in the middle of nowhere in a snow storm) drive it until it's unbearable/not safe then junk it or part it out.

Scotty says that you can change it but not flush it.
