Nissan May Go Out Of Business

Apparently, Anissa has 12-14 months to to find an anchor investor to replace Renault, or it may cease to exist in 2026. What's everyone's opinion on this?

I'm on other forums as well and people say Nissan is an icon. There is no way it'll cease to exist. However, what I think is when I think of Nissan, only 2 models come to my mind, the Skyline which is retired, and the Altima. When I think of like Toyota and Honda, there are many. Nissan quality is not very great. Maybe not even near Hyundai and Kia's quality at this point.

Nissan doesn't need an investor, they need a buyer. Renault owns Nissan.

Nissan's tumultuous past is fraught with drama. Remember Ghosn? Even if somebody bails Nissan out, the "icon" is finished. Their time in the spotlight is over. Maybe China will buy it for cheap and use the name to sell some garbage.

  • It's sad reality that Nissan could go out of business. The Nissan Rogue has always been a crapshoot with their CVT and front-wheel-drive automatic transmissions made by Jatco, for example. Nissan was originally known as Datsun and it was the Japanese who originally owned the company. They were almost on par with Toyota and Honda in the late '80s and most of the '90s. Renault, a French company bought them out in around 2000, and their decline started.

  • They still made halfway decent RWD vehicles for a little bit longer, using remnants of technology developed by Datsun. The Nissan Frontier and Nissan Titan were decent pickups in their time.
  • The original Japanese Datsun/Nissan is a relic of the past, driven into the ground by Renault.

  • It will be interesting if they go out of business. Mitsubishi recently started badge engineering Nissan products, so they can focus more on their aerospace products. Mitsubishi may need to exit the car business if Nissan goes out of business.

Just because a car company is an "Icon", doesn't mean it won't cease to exist. Remember Pontiac and Oldsmobile, just to name a couple?

As for Oldsmobile and Pontiac, they will still have some much beloved models like the GTO and the 442 that will be around a long, long time. As for Nissan, I don't think that will be the case.
