Nissan Oil type

Hey there Scotty,

My parents both own Nissan cars and they both take 5w-30 oil. The Nissan dealer uses 0w-20 and they say we have to request 5w-30, which again is what the manual says it takes. I think this is just wrong, and I think you should let everyone know that this is happening. They essentially are putting the wrong oil in peoples car, nationwide, unless you tell them to put the correct oil in. What do you think?

If they don't care about using the correct oil - a simple thing - than we can only wonder what shortcuts they take on more complex things.

modern oils don't have to be heavy to maintain good film strength. Sometimes better oils are created after the owner's manuals are printed.  Service manuals get updated though.

What years and models are they? After a certain couple years and on different engines they switched from a 5w30 to a synthetic 0w20 so it depends on the car and year

2014 Murano. The service advisor even said we did the good thing by requesting the 5w-30.

Ya that is definitely a 5w30 car and in there parts or back side(shop) side of the department they should know what is right but sadly more often than not service advisors would never know the difference or the year they shifted oil weight changes. They just aren’t technical
