They are awesome and very reliable if your getting one for a good price then I would say go for it and spend 50-100 bucks and get an external transmission cooler and you’ll never have to worry about the coolant in the transmission problem

And what you think about its fuel consumption? Some people are saying it consumes more gas than its competitors like 4runner

I’m not sure what the 4Runner gets for fuel economy but it’s a powerful v6 it’s not terrible on gas but it’s no 4 cylinder either when you get into legitimate full frame SUV’s the fuel economy is never great

EPA says around 14 city 18 highway if anyone can vouch for that.
4runner epa says 15 city 19 highway
they are both similar
they aren't horrible they aren't like a Sequoia or Armada but definetly on the low side (as you would expect from a car in this class)

Just found out that (2005-2015) nissan xterras have a major problem which is the secondary timing chain guide. It will cost a fortune to fix it.

If there not making noise now then the y have probably already been done and it’s not a super hard repair I think a fortune to fix is a mild exaggeration

I wouldn't spend my money on it. The Xterra doesn't meet the criteria for being called efficient, reliable, etc.

But the all suv in the same category as the xterra have the same rating when it comes to fuel consumption. The xterra gets 15 city and 19 highway.

Fuel consumption yes, but the Xterra is not a well built vehicle.

Scotty did say that the early models of nissan xterra before Renault take over nissan with the timing chain ones (2005-2009), are well build vehicles. Is there anything in specific that the xterras are very bad at beside the transmission cooling problem and the fuel efficiency?

Not to knock him by any means but i don’t think mod man has a very extended experience in the xterra as a daily driven vehicle they are very well built with very few problems. Not ignoring the trans cooler problem but that was one of the only problems which Nissan also offered a warranty extension on these vehicles. As far as regular problems there weren’t many

"They are very well built vehicles with very few problems." I'm not even going to acknowledge how wrong you are about my experience with those SUVs. Instead, I would GREATLY appreciate it if you could enlighten us all on YOUR extensive experience with Nissan Xterras. Not what you read on some website. How many have you owned? Worked on? Repaired? What issues have you seen? I want to know what makes YOU such a subject matter expert on the Nissan Xterra that you are 100% comfortable recommending it to someone, who is going to spend their hard earned money on it, as a 100% flawless daily driver.

I first started working on Nissans in 2002 so 19 years and I am ase and Nissan master certified and am foreman at the highest volume Nissan dealer in Connecticut. So I have some experience with the vehicles thank you @modman

There is very few issues I haven’t seen

That’s the largest part of the problem is all of this link posting to problem websites all you hear is the the problems and all vehicles have there problems it doesn’t say anything about the hundreds of thousands of that very same model on the road without issue. I don’t look up issues on the internet to give advise because that doesn’t help anyone and in my opinion is bad advice. I give advice based on personal experiences and things that I KNOW about not post links to what other people say

By your logic then this forum should not exist because the only people coming here are people with problems and they don't count. I'm not going to get into an argument with you over who has done what longer, but my posts are based on hands on experience. I may provide links to websites with owner feedback for additional information, but my actual posts come from my experience. The amount of misinformation coming from certain members here lately is entertaining and also concerning. But unfortunately it is what you get as a community grows. I'm really over it. {black}:gape:

I’m not saying this forum shouldn’t exist people have concerns and need help I’m not here for trash talking or who knows more hence why in my original post I said not knocking you at all but do you see as much of these and work as many of these as I do? I’m not here to be contradicted by people when I am only offering an honest realistic opinion of real experience not here’s a link to a website that only exists for the purpose of complaints? That’s why a lot of manufacturers get bad reputations. Some have there faults for sure but seeing everyone say run from Nissan and they are all junk is a gross false statement just because one person isn’t a fan it’s a brand bash and it’s ridiculous. People
Can read all the links they want and think they know it all but at the end of the day I’m only here to help people with what I can base on what I’ve seen and dealt with on almost 20 years of experience

They had coolant transmission issues in some years I would stick to the later years of the generation, or just stay away from Nissan completely

Oh and it gets horrendous gas mileage expect around 13 14 in the city and 18 19 highway if your lucky

I’d just stay away from Nissan completely.
