2004 Ford Explorer XLT I have heat coming from the vents but it seems like the air flow is weak. Also if I'm idling the car doesnt seem to keep the hot air flowing seems like it cools. Also the vent selector backlights have gone out.

Year, make, model, engine & transmission please!

When you say vent selector lights, do you mean the backlight or the digital display?

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer XLT. The vent selector is manual and it's the back light.

Check for blown fuses or bulbs.

I have made sure I have enough coolant. The heater control valve was just replaced along with the thermostat. Made sure theres no vacuum leaks. I have heat just the air flow is weak and idling seems like the heat cools down.

I'll see if I can find what fuses are for the backlight

Have a watch of the second video & check if you need a new blower motor resistor.

I have replaced the blower motor and ower motor resistor at the same time about a year ago.

Have you bled any air in the system, thoroughly?

How do I go about doing that?

I was under the impression that you already flushed out the coolant & heater core earlier? If not, do it first by watching the first video I linked above.

Ill try flushing the heater core. Thanks.

Good luck!

1 more question. Which fuse would be for the backlight I cant seem to find it.

there is probably one fuse for all of the instrument panel lighting. If only one light is out, then it's the bulb itself. Either disassemble and change the bulb, or replace the panel. boneyards are great for that.

Can you please check if the below diagram matches the one inside you vehicle?

You’re either looking at F2.7 or F2.30

make sure the cowl (the screen below the windshield where air gets drawn in) isn't covered by leaves and debris.

Yes! How did I forget about the cabin air filter?! Could very well be as simple as this!

you can check the cabin air filter too, if it has one.
But the cowl is screen is something else. It's under the hood.
