O2 Sensor Eliminators

I have a 2003 Chevy Avalanche Z71 with the stock 5.3l vortec nearing 200,000 miles and a freshly rebuilt transmission and new maf sensor.  It's throwing codes for O2 sensor and feels a bit ruff at idle. I'm sure it could use all new O2 sensors but learned there are eliminators that'll trick the ecm into thinking everything is ok. Just wondering your take on them. I live in Michigan and don't have emission tests to pass here...yet. Are these something to even consider?

  • I bought a car for 500 dollars once and put 2 spark plug non foulers that I drilled out one of the ends of and put the o2 sensor in and it never threw an oxygen sensor code again.... now for what that did for the engine I can't confirm whether or not it caused any other issues down the road from the computer reading different mixtures from the exhaust. But it will get you past inspection in a pinch. I would recommend replacing the cats on the z71 though ... I think they are worth it 🙂

Hi, I have a 02 Avy Z66 with 275 k :  )

No, not really as they do very beneficial things other than emissions ...like setting and keeping a stochastic af ratio which makes it run better, better gas mileage, eff, etc

And even if you don't have emissions testing, it's still illegal to mod emissions federally.

Get some quality O2 sensors and while you have them pulled put a pressure gage in bung hole and measure pressure differential.  This will give you a pressure differential between up and down stream thus providing a good indication of cat condition.
