Odometer Conflict

I have a 2003 Toyota Matrix XR. The gauge cluster recently quit working. My mechanic try to repair it but was unable to. They no longer make new gauge clusters so we had to get one from a wrecked car. Our car only has 130,000 miles on it but the gauge cluster that we got shows 260,000 miles. My mechanic noted the difference on our bill and he notified Carfax about the discrepancy. Should we do anything else so that when we go to sell the car we can accurately discuss the mileage?

If somebody had proof on their carfax that starting in july you had 130k miles, then it jumped to 260k in august, if you have good records, it should be sufficient for most knowledgeable buyers I would think. Sell it to somebody on these forums and you should be fine 🙂

So a scan tool will get the actual mileage, but it won’t sync/correct the odometer?

Correct, and in your case, the odometer may stop at 299999 miles..
