Burning smell

I am curious, can oil start burning around within 300 mi of your expected oil change? I drive a 2015 Kia Rio with only 65,000 miles. I could smell some burning when I was driving and I did not have the air conditioner on. And when I checked my oil, it was pretty black. I guess dirty oil is better than no oil, right?

Particularly with a Kia oil burning can start at any time. Check though that it's not just a leaky valve cover gasket causing the odor.

All Kias are hybrids. They burn gasoline AND oil.

And this is why I've gotten so anxious about whether it's better to get something old and reliable or continue holding on to the car knowing that it will die sooner than an old Honda or Toyota 🥲

I would sell it, yes.
By the way, black oil is fairly normal. It's doing its job. You want the dirt to be in your oil (which gets drained out), not on your engine.
