Oil changes

I have a 1999 chevy 2500 classic with a 350 that has 268,000 miles on it. I drive it maybe 5000 to 6000 miles a year now. I use conventional 5w-30 Castrol, I change the oil every 5000. I live in California no extreme weather changes. Should I wait a year to change the oil, or maybe every six months to be safe.

I do about the same miles for the same engine but I got a 93 silverado with a 350 in it but for it being so old I like changing it every 4 months or when the oil gets pretty dark which ever goes first. I mean I probably don't need too but I enjoy changing the life blood of my vehicle. I also look at the back of the 5 qt of oil I buy to make sure of the quality and I find the cheapest one I can get and go with that and I like using K&N filters with the synthetic filter material.

Because I use conventional oil, I change it every 3000 miles no matter what anybody says.

I have been driving since 1968 and in all the vehicles i've owned up to this very day, I change the oil every 3000 miles. I've never had an oil related problem in the dozens of vehicles i've owned. Do what you want. Believe what you will.
