Scotty, when do I check my oil level? Hot or cold? I just watched a Toyota Master Tech say only when it's hot...

Really?

You and the “master” should look in the owner’s manual together. Sometimes it’s even stamped into the dipstick

Master of none!

It’s kinda silly on my part, but I check it both. It’s interesting to see how it changes when the oil is heated and when the oil is cool. But the “proper” way AFAIK, is to check it when the car has been run for a bit.

Actualy some cars have a specific time to check oil, like 20 min after ride, or the  next day etc... But in reality oil pan is made to accomodate excess oil and even 25% loss of oil wont hurt engine  in the short run (in the long run it can cause oil wont have enough time to cool off . 99% manufacturers take ino account +/- 1liter(quart) of oil. Some even have room for extra 2-4 liters. So it is a complete nonsens to keep it perfectly in the mark. Just check after 15min and if it is in the oil level zone its fine.
