[Solved] 2010 Ford Escape oil pressure light on at idle

Hello,

I have a 2010 Ford Escape 3.0 with 156k miles. I just recently changed the oil and have started intermittently getting an oil pressure light that comes on when I am idling below 1k RPM’s then goes off once I start to drive. I’ve checked the oil level and it is not low. I do have a small oil leak but nothing terrible. Not sure what else to check. Thanks for any help in advance

Check the oil pressure sensor and the pigtail aka wiring harness.
Sometimes this won’t trip a check engine light..
If your oil level is good and the car is running ok more than likely this is your culprit.

it's not the oil pressure sensor, it's the oil pressure SENDER.  Over time, they corrode (they are brass) and got gummed up so they don't read properly.  They're screwed in to the block somewhere and usually have a single wire to them.  The sensor sends a signal to the ECU.  The sender sends a signal only to the idiot light or gauge.  Get one with a limited lifetime warranty.  Shouldn't be much more than about $30 and half an hours work.

What oil and oil filter did you use? Sometimes defective oil filter can cause this.

I used STP high mileage oil and a WIX filter. I will change the filter and see if that helps

I recently had this problem on my 2000 Ford Taurus with the DOHC engine. I replaced the oil pressure sensor. When I got the old one out, I discovered oil was leaking from it near the connector. This was a good sign it was failing. Replacing it fixed the issue.

Hopefully you are using the Ford recommended oil weight. A lot of research and development goes into those specs.

At those miles it's possible for enough bearing wear to cause that. If it gets noisy on acceleration, it's due for overhaul or replacement.
