Oil smoking from the top oil cap when removed

I have a 2003 Ford F-150 4.6L V8 with 347k miles, i had recently purchased from my neighbor for $400. He had told me it needed the timing chain replaced. I test drove it and did a diagnostic and it had a misfire.

I replaced all 8 ignition coils and spark plugs, serpentine belt and a couple fuses.

It does have a small oil leak and smokes from the top cap when removed. How do i fix this? What could be the problem

For the oil smoke, it depends on how much you see. If it smokes a lot, either the valve stem seals or the piston rings are bad. For the oil leak, use the UV dye for finding the leak source.

Its not a whole lot but pretty steady could it be the oil itself burning?

Considering the mileage, the engine probably needs some work.

I'd do a wet/dry compression test to see how worn the rings and valves are - and make sure my PCV valve is working.

I did check, the rings are worn and it will cost me more then the truck is worth to replace.

I think it had way to much oil to begin with from the previous owner, when i did change the oil it was grimmy and looked like it wasnt changed for a while. I have a much less oil leak. Will a sealant help with regular changes

With that mileage, I would suspect the rings are probably worn out and you're getting a lot of blow by.
