I have a 2001 Toyota Highlander 232,000 miles. It pulls away ok but then as I pick up speed the transmission stops pulling. If stop for a couple of minutes, I can repeat - it pulls away but then stops engaging. Could this be fixable or is it goodbye? Plenty of transmission fluid. It happened suddenly without any previous warning signals.

You would need a transmission expert to do a hands-on diagnosis, but chances are at that age and mileage the transmission is shot especially if it has not been serviced regularly over the last 23 years.
