Hello Scotty,

Thanks for taking time to answer if you have time. I have an 1982 Oldsmobile Omega 2.8 L Brougham sedan, Varajet 2 carburetor.

It runs for a second on start up then dies, I have had the carburetor rebuilt and fuel is being delivered from the pump. I checked the float level too, spark plugs are new. Any suggestion you have I would appreciate, thank you.

Live free or die.

Well of course look for vacuum leaks on the intake system. But you said you had it rebuilt a lot of times guys don't rebuild them correctly. Here in the states what we do with those with carburetors as we throw them away and then put on a brand new Edelbrock carburetor. Those things work great

THanks, I will see if I can find one. I couldn't find a vacuum leak that I'm aware of. I probably should go and get the car as they've had it for 3 weeks and done nothing to it, before they charge me $$$$ for nothing

I went to the garage where the car has been for 6 weeks... and put the new carburetor that you suggested I get in it myself, it is now running.

Check also other advices in FAQ and see if they help you.

You might want to check out this Oldsmobile forum - parts and knowledge might be hard to find many places (how did one end up in Switzerland?)

Thanks. Some american cars were made here at that time, others were imported.

Yes, I used to know a guy in Switzerland who owned a Euro-specification Rambler Classic, a 1963 or 1964 model I think. Back in the 1960s AMC had a deal with Renault where that company would assemble and sell Ramblers in Europe with whatever mods were needed to meet local requirements. No doubt other American companies had similar deals going.

Interesting. AMC cars were assemlbed in Australia too
