Good Day - eH,

Would love your thoughts on a 2017 LEXUS, RC-350 F-Sport, AWD, 3.5 L V-6, 6-Speed Automatic transmission.

Will be a summer driver - so here in Canada that’s 4 to maybe 5.5 months.

Again just wondering if it a good vehicle choice? If not what would you suggest in this range?

Thank-you- your site is absolutely amazing!!

Thanks for the kind regards, Scotty appreciates it :  )

Yes, a good choice imo for your location.  Assuming you want the "sport" play availability during summer but gives you the option to be good in winter too for your location if/as needed.

Fine choice.  I love the RC luxury coupe!  Can’t go wrong with that esp. that true and tried Asin 6-speed.  You’ll be happy with it.

I respectfully disagree with you on the Transmission, while it is reliable it isn't great in a sport coupe, it is dumb and doesn't know what gear to be in and in manual mode with paddle shifter the shifts are slow. Thank you for your help last night when you recommending the C5 corvette, what do you think of the Cadillac CTS V 2004 it uses the same engine and transmission. It has the back seats I want but is a little big.

Well, I would have gone for the 8-speed version but that is only offered with the RWD version of that vehicle. The AWD only comes with 6-speed, so if the OP needed the AWD capability then no choice.

@bclaud8977 the 2004 CTS-V with the C5 Z06 engine (LS6) and Tremec 6-speed is a good combo - that should be very reliable and last a long time. I don’t know too much more about the long term longevity of that car (keep in mind things like electronics, etc. can fail before the engine/transmission do, so you have to look at the complete package). I had some friends looking for them but they were super hard to find. Have you checked the Cadillac Forum (maybe V-series section I dunno) and see what kind of mileages and issues people are encountering? I didn’t care for the looks of that Cadillac but it is a definite sleeper, and should be under $20,000. Also, insurance might be cheaper. If you go with V8 your insurance will generally be higher than V6 or I4, so keep insurance in mind for your first time vehicle.

The insurance in something to keep in mind for sure, I also do not love the looks of the Cadillac CTS from that Era but it is okay. I am worried about the electronics but I have not had time to much research lately. I see one for sale for around 13k with 118k miles on it, so that may be an option. I just would have a hard time chosing between the corvette or the Cadillac. I have been making more friends in the past couple of years, but the corvette would be awesome to drive. I will be able to use my parents 2004 Toyota Camry when they get a new one so that may play a factor too.

Sounds like an amazing car, I am looking at the 2016 GS 350 as my possible first car with is the same basic car just yours would be a coupe and mine would be a sedan. The one bad thing in my opinion is the transmission it just seems to let the whole car down, it is reliable but doesn't know what gear it should be in and the shifts are slow. Also the infotainment is well crap. But if you don't mind those things and you want an unquestionably reliable luxury coupe with a sporty attitude, it can be a great choice. Another great choice would be a Bmw 440i 2017, it has the same engine and transmission as the 2020 Toyota Supra. It is one of the most reliable BMW's you can get in the newer generations. It uses the ZF HP 8 speed auto that Scotty Raves about. The B58 an awesome motor built on a diesel block and with a closed deck design it is extremely overbuilt. It has been tuned to almost 1000 hp. It is very similar to the old 2jz engine. Don't overlook this BMW!
