Scotty, I am begging you to cover this topic in a video. This is absolute bullshit and millions of cars designed for E10 and lower gasoline will suffer damage to fuel systems and engines. Please use your voice, make people aware of why this is wrong. Our freedom to choose is being taken away in this Country and all the politicians care about is making things look more "eco-friendly".
@2003sequoia
That’s your government saving your life man because you can’t think and they will prove it. Now get this : true fuel will come along to all your local government bodies and show how much money they will save them in equipment repairs and convince them to buy alcohol free fuel. So the tax payer gets the bill to put it in and take it out. Keep voting for those winners!!!!!
@2003sequoia
And instead of trying to run our transportation of dead animal juice we will not use food crops that will go in out tanks instead of on our tables. I miss the good old days when political corruption was just controlling drinking alcohol.
the thing is the scientists put additives to keep the ethanol from doing any damage and they seem to work perfectly fine. Now if you run 85% or 100% ethanol yes you have to have special fuel injectors and pumps to operate those things but with 15% and the additives that they have they do it to boost octane. Ethan all tire octane and gasoline that's why the race cars use pure ethanol
The place to explain problems for existing cars is with your politicians. They make the laws. I would even bet you are not by yourself with concerns of how new laws effect old cars. You are seeing a political problem and not a mechanical one. Go to your government. Start a petition and gather names. Government does not care about a YouTube video.
The real problem is not so much the quality of the gas but that governments want to force electric vehicles on us all. They do not care about your motor being damaged because they want to destroy your car, completely. They want all mechanics to learn electric vehicles. They want us all to buy new electric battery operated cars. After we have more than enough money to support their idea of perfect environmental cooperation between man, machine and Mother Nature.
Rant mode off. Or at least silenced. {black}:rabid:
@jimz
I'm with jimz on this, a guy named louis Rossman has been talking right to repair for years, but he also has to start talks to politicians and show them evidence when they come in, offering free repairs, this made apple upset who sent videos on tv saying how you're a terrible person for wanting a phone to last longer, guess who won the politicians. It may seem like politicians don't want to listen to you but they're more worried about losing their job. They can't take bribes if they're not in office :p
Louis is a nice guy, but he's fighting a losing battle. It has nothing to do with politicians. Most people just don't care about repair.
It takes thousands and thousands of years to make petroleum. It takes a few hours to make ethanol. Get used to it.
@oldrangernut
Besides, government subsidizes ethanol so making it has more profit. Get use to it.
@oldrangernut
Taxpayers all. What countries are those that control everything? It slips my mind now.
@mountainmanjoe
Not (yet ☺). Communist regime is one of toughest. In ex-communist countries, the consequences in mentality are still present.
Wow. The worst it can do is make your car run somewhat less powerful since ethanol is not as energy-dense compared to regular gasoline, but it's only a 5% increase. But I doubt it will make any noticeable difference and cause your fuel system to corrode.
Parts of Alberta have been running e15 since early Feb with no effect or complaints.
@retoldpro
Not exactly true, … I live in Alberta. Since 10% turned into 15%, fuel efficiency dropped noticeably. My CRV logged previously ~ 7.3 litre per 100 km of travel. Than it dropped to ~7.9 litres to 100 km of travel. Or, an example: I would fill up my car in Calgary, AB, and drive to Merritt, BC without filling up in between(705 km). After increase to E15, I can make only to Kamloops, BC (620 km). A noticeable difference.
Btw, … those are summer driving numbers.
F.S.
You're probably right. My relatives in Nanton lie a lot.
Nothing new, didn't that happen, like, last year ?
I'm trying to think and act constructively here, and I agree, alcohol may not be the best solution as an alternate fuel.
However, a very real fact of life is that petroleum is running out, and like it or not, sometime and someday it will all be gone. You can drill all the holes you want, but you'll find out the hard way that it's not "already there".
So it's time to stop addressing increases in ethanol content because it gives less horsepower. If you have a better idea for an alternate fuel, let's hear it !
@oldrangernut
Petroleum will not run out any time soon, not within the lifetime of anyone here today, and not for hundreds of years. By the time an alternative is really needed we'll have something like Mr. Fusion or maybe even something we cannot even conceive of. The adulteration of gasoline with ethanol is a politically-motivated boodoggle that we'd all be better off without.
You certainly have the right to your opinion, as I have to my opinion. I have no problem with using ethanol. What do you suggest as an alternative to petroleum ?
@oldrangernut
There is no need for an alternative to petroleum at the present time, nor will there be a need for it any time in the foreseeable future. New power sources will be developed in the fullness of time in the course of scientific progress. If and when they are superior to petroleum products they will be adopted.
Predictions that "we're running out of oil" have been around for at least 50-60 years that I can personally recall, with the date certain ranging from "imminent" to maybe 10 to 20 years out. Yet the supply continues to increase. (That's without even getting into being able to make petroleum products out of sources such as coal.)
@oldrangernut
Oil is sure running out where we live Bakersfield CA, lots of wells are dry and pumps rusting. Easier to drill and pump on land, so why so many in the ocean. Who told you oil was NOT running out ? Oops, out of gas, gotta go ..
I heard it from the USA Energy Information Administration. The USA is producing more oil than ever before. Peak oil is a lie.
