Our EV Future? GM’s recommendation to Chevy Bolt owners

For our members who own Chevrolet Bolt EV, in light of the (catching on fire) issues the Chevrolet Bolt has been having, GM is recommending owners to do the following:

  • If parking in garage, park at the top floor or open level and also at least 50 feet away from other vehicles.
  • Park outdoors and away from structures.
  • Do not charge overnight.
  • Do not leave the vehicle charging unattended.

  • Do not plow your deathtrap Bolt through the front door of the GM dealership.
  • Do not sue us. Please.

Unbelievable.

GM "quality" in a type of vehicle already prone to massive electrical fires. What could possibly go wrong?

This just doesn't surprise me at all. There are some parking garages that do not even allow Bolt's to park in them. Just more GM junk.

My advice for anyone in the EV market, DON'T BUY A GM EV, ESPECIALLY THE BOLT.

We don’t care, we don’t have to.

Apparently if you leave your electric car near another car you can burn down the whole parking garage

After Two Recalls, GM Finally Just Tells Bolt EV Owners: “Don’t Park Your Car Within 50 Feet Of Another Car”

After a series of recalls that we have documented here on Zero Hedge, General Motors looks to be taking its precautions with the Chevy Bolt one step further: the automaker is asking Bolt owners to park “at least 50 feet” from other vehicles if you’re going to leave your car in a parking deck.

GM spokesman Dan Flores, who we’re sure isn’t getting paid enough to deliver this line with a straight face, said this week: “In an effort to reduce potential damage to structures and nearby vehicles in the rare event of a potential fire, we recommend parking on the top floor or on an open-air deck and park 50 feet or more away from another vehicle. Additionally, we still request you do not leave your vehicle charging unattended, even if you are using a charging station in a parking deck.”

What surprises me is that the people still buy GM products, despite the fact that there are other manufacturers make better (and in this case, safer) produts with the same price range.

Yeah, unfortunately you always have those people that ignore Scotty’s and our advice to stay away from those brands because they like the cheaper price (“value” proposition), features (including latest tech), brand loyalty, just plain ignorance on GM quality/reliability issues, they like the styling, and/or just checks their boxes.

I'm surprised people buy any of the new stuff honestly. If I had the money for a new car I'd buy an older model in good shape, slap in a new driveline & stock up on parts.
Then 15 coats of laquer😄

Say you're going to drop $40k, if you find a specimen of your choice with a cooked engine/trans but otherwise mint or a restored roller that someone has to sell for a few grand then you have 30k & change to toss at it. So many possibilities.

Yeah it’s very sad:

And to think Honda (of all companies) has teamed up with GM to utilize their all-new Ultium EV platform (the Bolt uses an older platform).  What can possibly go wrong for Honda whose reliability/quality has already taken a hit over the years?

I think Honda stops this collaboration. It is just a matter of time.

Good luck parking your Bolt at the airport-

Some people like to recharge their EVs overnight because they say the rates are lower.

Their rates will never be lower than the increase in the home owner's insurance premiums.

This is an old story. I think they've fixed them by now.

Well it's a 7 month old topic.

Do any of these companies say "Do not sit in or stand near vehicle while charging" yet?
