Hey everyone I have an almost 300k GX470 2006 and I want to give it to my dad and buy a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander V6 done about 130k miles. Would it be a good option especially with the good MPG considering its a V6.
Unfortunately you have a car that is annoyingly reliable, and you will find it very hard to replace it with something better unless you are replacing it with another Toyota or Lexus. I say that because you have asked before, in regards to another car.
I know your GX doesn't get great gas mileage, just like my 08 GX, but I save tons because it only requires minimal maintenance. If yours has been taken care of, even at 300k, it can still last a long, long time.
There is nothing wrong with wanting a newer vehicle, but when you ask if you should replace it with something else for the purpose of saving money, or being more reliable, you are going to have a very hard time. Mine has about 200k on it, and I think about it now and then, but it doesn't take me long to realize that many of my friends with newer vehicles are spending thousands on repairs, even hondas, while my old GX is running just fine.
Now if you don't need a big, super off road capable, cushy SUV, you may could give it to your dad, and get a decent Corolla, and the gas mileage might save you a bit, but you really have to drive a good bit.
In my opinion, you will have a very hard time justifying getting rid of a paid for GX470, to save money on gas.
I have been having this thought since 2 years now but I always end up keeping my GX. Truly they are great cars. I think I will just raise some cash to buy another small cars which I will use for in town commuting or when there is too much driving but will definitely keep the GX. Thanks for your response
I would not buy a used outlander with that kind of mileage. They are okay cards if you buy them new or low mileage but once they get to that mileage generally they start to fall apart. They do not have the quality of a Toyota or Lexus or Honda
I had a 2020 Outlander, bought it with around 20k miles on it. For the most part i enjoyed the car. But it had this annoying grinding sound everytime I used the brakes. It wasnt the brakes...i had replaced all of them plus the rotors. Now, imo i think it was because it was treated a little rough from prior owners but idk. Anyways, they're ok cars and although i regret buying it from where I did I don't regret having it. Sadly some guy ran a red light and it got totaled at 70ish thousand miles, so I never got a chance to see how long it would last but I felt it would have at least hit 200k before having any major issues.
Thanks scotty
