Overfilled my 5.3 v8 vortec with 2 quarts of oil and drove 200 miles with it like that
What are the symptoms of any damage
Should the oil smell burnt if it have been overfilled etc. Come with all the symptoms please 🙂
Have a great one 😉
I recently had exact same issue. Just drained and replaced for 30 bucks all. Not worth taking expensive risks for a mere 30 bucks fix
Alright, how long did you drive and how much overfill
And what car 🙂
In that amount of mileage, you are likely ok. Overfilling the oil can cause leaks at the oil pan under the car as too much pressure forces the oil out past the gaskets.
As most have said, the biggest issue is when you overfill the oil does not lubricate the engine properly and that's when real damage can occur.
Drain the oil, refill to the proper level, check oil pressure, make sure you have nothing pooling under the vehicle, learn, and move on. You are probably ok.
Likely didn't cause any damage. Be sure to drain back to normal level asap and keep an eye on the oil level for a while.
Okay why should I watch oil level is it because of worn engine?
Keep an eye on the oil level to be sure nothing has changed such as a blown leaky seal due to the over fill condition. Is unlikely but you want to catch it asap.
Okay I do not think any of that have happened but do you think excessive wear have occurred? 🙂
The reason why overfilling the oil is bad is because it will start making significant contact with the crankshaft. When this happens, the crankshaft spins so fast that it will turn the oil into a frothy consistency; frothy oil cannot be siphoned by the oil pump, hence you will have poor engine lubrication since the oil cannot be dispersed throughout the engine by the oil pump.
I have drained the oil
And put ned in
No big chunks of metal
Does not smell burnt
It did not make blue smoke in any form sounds good in the engine, oil pressure is at 40psi at idle
Okay and when is does that the engine cam will get hotter, and make oil smell burned?
I'm not sure what you're question is asking. I wouldn't worry anymore now that you corrected the oil level. Driving it like that for 200 miles did not do any instant damage. It does damage on a long term basis (driving overfilled until the next oil change).
Is unlikely any damage or wear occurred. Oil pans have baffles in them to keep a pool of oil over the oil pump pick up so it probly didn't lose pressure. Like I said before just keep an eye on it for a while.
Okay thanks 🙂
But what do you mean with lose pressure?
sucking air
Alright thanks.
Just a question, when the oil becomes foamy because of the overfill, how will the oil pressure from the inside react? Will it drop or raise
drop
And it was 200 miles in a row no breaks
