Dear Scotty,
I follow your videos on YouTube at least 3-4 times a week and I really enjoy your approach instructing others in car mechanics based on your long experience.
I recently purchased a Jeep Wrangler Sahara 2010, 2-door, 3.8l gasoline now with 83k miles. I drove 1500 miles since I purchased it in August 2021.
Here is my problem (but it's a big opportunity to learn new things!).
P0456 code: Evaporative Emission System Leak detected (very small leak).
I proceed to erase the code but the Engine Light comes back every 10-15 days (or every 80-150 miles). It's been at least more than 10 times the engine light turns on so far.
Knowing I replaced some of the fuel system parts: (1) new fuel cap (Mopar PN 68030940aa) (2) repaired a broken white nipple attaching a quick-connect fitting in the back of the fuel tank with epoxy tightening the crack. (3) new vapor canister purge valve (Mopar PN 4891731aa) (4) new evaporative system integrity module detector with new seal (Mopar PN 4861962ac, 52129436aa). I could eliminate a bunch of prior failure codes like P0455, P0457, gas cap loose, etc. but I CAN'T eliminate this P0456 code.
This is the tech detail I've gotten with my scanner CGSULIT OBDII/EOBD SC301: EVAP Monitor (0.020) fails in 3 tests: (1) failure in "Small Leak Accumulated Engine 'ON' Time" (2) failure in "Small Leak Accumulated Engine 'OFF' Time" (3) failure in "Leak Detection Switch Time to Close". Another failure found under the "Purge Flow Monitor": "Purge Valve Fraction" test failed.
I'm out of ideas at this point. With all this information, where could I pin-point my next diagnose/repair? Thank you for enlightening my thoughts!
Happy holidays,
Carlos
Well Jeeps use those stupid leak evap check systems that have an electric pump and the pumps themselves will off and leak but you need a bidirectional scan tool to test all that stuff and a smoke machine. On the other hand it will probably run perfectly fine
