2001 nissan pathfinder r50 3.3 auto towing 1900 kg van for 8 mths and just replaced transmission at 250K kms.
Should we just use recommended atf, or is there also an atf additive to offer better protection?
Any suggestions please?

Clean ATF that is changed regularly is good. Every 50,000 miles or even before that. It's up to you. Usually people add other liquids when they start to have problems.
