Hey Scotty and the community! I have a 1985 500sel benz with 200k miles the M117 bottom end are known to be solid until 300k miles where the whole motor needs to be serviced. After replacing my thermostat because the car was running too cold the motor was running hot (faulty thermostat) I notice I was loosing oil and a lot of it. The oil was being shot into the intake filter housing via the pcv hose. There is no pcv valve on these cars just a baffle inside the valve cover which prevents oil from shooting into the pcv hose. I know that baffle Is working because if that breaks it will fall on the cams and destroy the motor. I changed the oil and problem continued. No loss of power just a missfire from the oily plugs and no black or blue smoke either heads were done 40k miles ago. What could be the problem? Worn rings 100k miles prematurely? There is also no sludge in the block.
Well when the piston rings are worn they put up extra pressure and that's what happens means the engine piston rings are worn out
Hey Scotty I just discovered one of the headbolts was not even on fully ! No not that it unthreaded but it wasn't even threaded in full or torqued down. And the 2 spark plugs with the most amount of oil came from the cylinders middle of that headbolt !

Sounds like you found the cause of your "oily misfire"!
How can I clean the cylinder without ruining the spark plugs ?
